Folks as far west in Texas to NYC we are dealing with a snow/ice storm this weekend.

For my caregivers here are some tips to care for yourself and your loved one:

  1. Making sure your loved ones has all of their medications. Picking up any refills due before the storm starts.
  2. If your loved one uses a medical device that needs power, have a back up plan. If that means trying to get a generator, do it.
  3. Chare all cell phones, battery backs, portable charges. (Avoid candles if possible).
  4. Get any batteries you may need (AA, AAA, 9V- most smoke detectors use this specific battery).
  5. Gather any flashlights or lanterns.
  6. Have 3-4 days worth of bottled water for each family member in the house.
  7. Have food that is easy and have snacks.
  8. If applicable: Have salt ready for entrances, steps and sidewalks.
  9. If applicable: If you have a car, make sure the gas tank is filled.
  10. Go to ATM and take out up to $100 in case of power outage and you need money.
  11. If applicable: Caregiver: Make sure you have your medications.
  12. Caregiver: If you have to shovel, bend your knees, take breaks.
  13. Play in the snow with your kids, build memories!
